AIS - Automatic Identification System

Argyll Workboats are fitted with AIS (Automatic Identification System) which is a radio transponder system that allows tracking of any ships with AIS fitted. Our vessels are fitted with VHF short range AIS as the vessel only works in coastal waters. As well as transmitting a radio signal, the ships AIS also allows recieving of signals from other vessels in range which can then be displayed on our radars to help identify other vessels movements.
